Which employer is a qualifying PSLF employer, and how do I verify it instead of believing the recruiter?
Only 501(c)(3) nonprofits and government employers qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness. There is a small class of other nonprofits that can qualify, and a narrow contractor exception in California and Texas, but for most offers, this is the test. Private equity backed groups generally do not qualify, even when they staff a nonprofit hospital. The rule looks at who employs you. The building you work in does not count.

The anesthesia trap
A lot of anesthesia groups are for profit companies with a contract to staff a nonprofit hospital. You can walk into a nonprofit hospital every day for years and not one of those payments counts toward PSLF, because the hospital was never your employer. The group was. The hospital's nonprofit status does not transfer to the group.
This is a common PSLF mistake in anesthesia. The recruiter shows you a nonprofit hospital logo. You assume the job qualifies. Years later you discover that your W2 came from a for profit staffing company and none of those years counted. That is an expensive discovery.
Recruiters get this wrong without lying
Often they just do not know. They see a nonprofit hospital logo, they know you have loans, and they say it will qualify. Then you find out years later, when it is expensive to fix.
Do not outsource this verification. It takes fifteen minutes and it protects years of payments.
Verify it yourself in three steps
First, find out which entity will issue your W2. The name on your W2 is your employer for PSLF purposes. Not the hospital on the recruiter's slide, and not the brand name on your badge. Ask HR directly. What legal entity will employ me, and what is its EIN? The EIN is the employer identification number, the tax ID for that company.
Second, take that EIN to the PSLF Employer Search on StudentAid.gov, and check whether that entity shows up as a qualifying employer. Save a screenshot of what you find, with the date on it. If the tool says undetermined or not found, that is a flag to look closer, not a final answer.
Third, once you start, certify your employment early. Do not wait years to find out whether the paperwork goes through. Annual certification catches problems while they are still fixable.
If it does not qualify
If the entity does not qualify, that does not automatically make the job wrong for you. It means PSLF is off the table for that job, and that belongs in your math. For someone with big federal loans, losing forgiveness can be worth more than a large difference in base salary. For someone with smaller loans, or a plan to pay them off quickly, it might barely register.
Run the numbers. If you have $250,000 in federal loans and you are five years into PSLF, the remaining forgiveness value can be well over $100,000 depending on your income and repayment plan. A job that pays $20,000 more per year but kills PSLF is not paying more. It is paying less.
That is a comparison you get to make. What you do not want is to make it on the recruiter's assumption. If PSLF is part of your plan, get the employing entity's EIN and check it yourself before you sign.

Follow up questions
What is the California and Texas contractor exception?
A narrow rule allows some physicians employed by for profit groups but working full time at qualifying nonprofits in California and Texas to count those years toward PSLF. The requirements are specific. Do not assume you qualify without checking the current rules.
Can I get PSLF credit for past years at a non qualifying employer?
Generally no. Only payments made while employed by a qualifying employer count.
What if the PSLF Employer Search says undetermined?
That is a flag to investigate further, not a final answer. Contact your loan servicer, and consider submitting an employment certification form to get an official determination.
